นครศรีธรรมราช: ผู้อำนวยการโรงเรียนในอำเภอพระพรหม ยอมลาออกแล้วเมื่อวานนี้ หลังจากถูกกดดันจากผู้ปกครองนักเรียนที่ไม่พอใจ โดยกล่าวหาว่าออกคำสั่งให้นักเรียนซื้อเหรียญจตุคามรามเทพเพื่อหาเงินเข้าโรงเรียน นายเสรี ศรีปากแพรก ผู้อำนวยการโรงเรียนพระพรหมพิทยานุสรณ์พบกับปัญหา ภายหลังตัดสินใจระดมเงินกับกระแสคลั่งเหรียญจตุคามรามเทพ โดยเสนอความคิดให้เช่าบูชาเหรียญจตุคามรามเทพองค์ละ 599 บาท

ผู้ปกครองนักเรียนที่เพิ่งสูญเงินจำนวนไม่น้อย กับเรื่องค่าเทอมและค่าอุปกรณ์การเรียนไปเมื่อเดือนที่แล้ว ตอบโต้ด้วยความไม่พอใจ

ภาวะขัดสนเรื่องเงินของผู้ปกครองนักเรียน ทำให้พวกเขาหมดความอยากครอบครองเหรียญจตุคามรามเทพ ซึ่งเชื่อกันว่าจะนำความร่ำรวยมาให้

นายเสรีซึ่งอยู่ในอาการตกใจ ยืนยันว่า“เรื่องนี้เป็นการสื่อสารที่ผิดพลาด” “ผมไม่ได้สั่งให้นักเรียนซื้อเหรียญจตุคาม เพียงแค่ขอความร่วมมือเท่านั้น”

ผู้ปกครองนักเรียนไม่มีทีท่าประนีประนอม ต่างเรียกร้องให้ผู้อำนวยการลาออก โดยกล่าวว่ามีพฤติกรรมไม่เหมาะสม

นายเสรียินยอมตามข้อเรียกร้องแต่โดยดี แต่ก็กล่าวว่ามีเพียงผู้อำนวยการเขตพื้นที่การศึกษาเท่านั้น ที่มีอำนาจอนุมัติให้ตนเองลาออก ภายหลังเจ้าหน้าที่ให้คำมั่นว่าจะไม่มีใครถูกบังคับให้ซื้อเหรียญจตุคามรามเทพ ผู้ปกครองนักเรียนจึงยอมสลายตัว

สำนักงานสวัสดิการครู ในสังกัดกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ เคยหารายได้ด้วยวิธีการนี้เช่นกัน โดยทางสำนักงานได้จัดพิธีปลุกเสกวัตถุมงคลและให้เช่าซื้อเหรียญจตุคามรามเทพ เพื่อระดมเงินช่วยเหลือครูที่ประสบปัญหาเรื่องเงินในพื้นที่ประสบปัญหาความไม่สงบทางภาคใต้

แต่เรื่องของผู้อำนวยการเสรีจบลงแบบเศร้ากว่า สิ่งที่เขาทำได้รับการบันทึกให้เป็น “เรื่องร้าย” ซึ่งเกิดกับคนที่สร้างหรืออยากครอบครองเหรียญจตุคามรามเทพ ซึ่งเป็นชื่อของเทพผู้ดูแลพระบรมสารีริกธาตุของพระพุทธเจ้า ณ วัดพระมหาธาตุ ในจังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช

เมื่อเดือนเมษายน มีผู้หญิงคนหนึ่งถูกฝูงชนเหยียบเสียชีวิตที่จังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช ขณะกำลังแย่งจองเหรียญจตุคามรามเทพ เจ้าอาวาสของวัดที่เกิดเหตุการณ์นี้ ซึ่งมีหน้าที่ประกอบพิธี ถูกตำรวจตั้งข้อหากระทำการโดยประมาท เป็นเหตุให้ผู้หญิงคนนี้เสียชีวิต

กระแสคลั่งไคล้เหรียญจตุคามรามเทพทำให้คนยอมละเมิดกฎหมาย เพื่อให้ตนได้เหรียญมา ครอบครอง จนบางครั้งก็เกิดเหตุการณ์ที่น่าเศร้าสลดขึ้น อย่างน้อยก็มีคนคนหนึ่งถูกยิงเสียชีวิต ขณะพยายามแอบงัดบ้านเข้าไปขโมยเหรียญจตุคามรามเทพ

Nakhon Si Thammarat - A school principal in Phra Phom district agreed to resign yesterday under pressure from angry parents who accused him of ordering students to buy Jatukarm Ramathep amulets to raise money for the school. Seri Sripakpraek, director of Phra Phom Phitayanusorn school, found himself in trouble after he decided to capitalise on the craze for Jatukarm talismans and floated the idea of raising money by selling the amulets for 599 baht each.

But parents, already drained of cash by the cost of school fees and learning materials last month, responded angrily.

Their shortage of money overrode any enthusiasm for the Jatukarm Ramathep amulet, which is ironically believed to bring wearers of wealth.

''It's a failure of communication,'' a stunned Mr Seri insisted. ''I didn't order the students to buy the amulets, just asked them for their cooperation.''

Refusing to be mollified, the parents demanded he resign, saying his action was inappropriate.

He subsequently bowed to their demand, but said only the director of the education zone had the power to approve his resignation. The angry parents dispersed after state officials assured them that no-one would be forced to buy the amulets.

The Education Ministry's office of teacher welfare has raised money in a similar way. It held an amulet-making ceremony and sold the talismans to raise money for needy teachers in the restive deep South.

Mr Seri's venture had a less happy ending. His experiment has been added to the record of ''unfortunate events'' occurring to some people involved in making or acquiring Jatukarm Ramathep amulets, the name of a guardian god of relics of the Lord Buddha kept at Wat Phramahathat temple in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

In April, a woman was trampled to death beneath a crowd in Nakhon Si Thammarat stampeding to reserve amulets. The abbot of the temple in charge of the ceremony faces a police charge of carelessness resulting in the woman's death.

The craze for the amulets is such that people have resorted to breaking the law to get their hands on one -- sometimes with unfortunate results. And at least one person has been shot dead trying to break into homes to steal the amulets.
